Sugimoto Yumi was shortlisted in the reader model contest for the famous Japanese girl manga magazine Ribon when she was a student. He worked as a model for the magazine from May 2002 to May 2004. In 2006, Sugimoto became the image girl of Sanai Aquarium, and began to participate in various activities of Gravure Idol. In July 2007, he participated in serial performances and embarked on the road of actor. In June 2008, Sugimoto performed in the special drama "Yan Shen Clan Roarers", playing the roles of Gun Yin Yin and Suta Miwa.
